قالیچههای پوستین ساروق را که زیرمجموعه قالیهای تصویری دورۀ قاجار محسوب میشوند و از کمیابترین گونهها هستند، میتوان علاوهبر جنبههای زیباییشناسانۀ قالیهای تصویری همعصرشان، از منظر محتوا و نمادهای نهفته در آن مورد مطالعه قرار داد. هدف پژوهش، تحلیل خاستگاه شکل ظاهری قالیچههای پوستین ساروق و واکاوی نمادهای تصویری مطرحشده، برای کشف ارتباط آنها با آیینها و مراسم تصوف و درویشی است. بنابراین، پرسش مطرحشده آن است که خاستگاه احتمالی شکل ظاهری این قالیچهها کجا بوده و چه ارتباطی بین نمادهای تصویری آن با آیینهای درویشی وجود دارد؟ روش تحقیق توصیفی- تحلیلی بوده و جمعآوری دادهها بهصورت کتابخانهای انجامگرفته، همچنین با توجه به آرای میرچا الیاده به نمادهای موجود در این قالیچهها پرداختهشده است. نتایج حاکی از آن است که دو منشأ یکی در شرق دور (سرزمینهای هند و تبت) و دیگری در عثمانی میتواند در شکل ظاهری قالیچههای پوستین مطرح باشد که منشأ شرقی محتملتر است. همچنین کاربست نقوش نمادین دراویش در این نوع قالیچهها میتواند نشان از کاربرد آئینی و نمادین قالیچههای پوستین ساروق در مراسم دراویش باشد که فراتر از یک کفپوش بوده و بهعنوان دیوارآویز استفاده میشده است. با توجه به یافتههای تحقیق، ردپای آیینهای هندو و بودایی رایج در سرزمینهای هند، تبت و مناطق همجوار در این قالیچه قابل پیگیری است.
