Among the many styles of gonabadMend pottery, there is a type called "Naghsh-e-Derham" among the types of stained glazes that has not been given much attention in previous studies, or its cultural values, identity features, and aesthetic aspects have not been introduced beyond its ordinary perception. This pottery style, which is created by quickly smearing colors together, has previously won awards at national handicraft festivals in the 1950s, and in recent years has only been continued by a few Mend pottery artists. In the present study, with the aim of analyzing the place of "spotted" pottery in the Gonabad Mend and then analyzing its aesthetic characteristics based on compliance with the visual principles of Gestalt, the following questions have been raised. What are the types of pottery techniques and the place of spotted glazes in the pottery of the "Gonabad Mend"? How can we use Gestalt psychology to identify the perceptual, visual characteristics, and cognitive values of the spotted pottery called "Naghsh Darham"? The research method is descriptive-analytical and the research findings are based on written sources, works in museums and reference to the living heritage of Mend pottery. The results show that among the numerous abstract and naturalistic pottery painting methods in Gonabad Mend, the method known as spot glazes with the local name "Naghsh-e-Darham" is among the original pottery painting methods, whose origin dates back to eastern Iran and the third and fourth centuries. This method, which differs from other pottery techniques in this region in terms of execution rather than content, mainly uses the arrangement of green, yellow, blue, red, azure, and black colored spots and the incompleteness of the design, and therefore was recognized as compatible with the principles of Gestalt visual perception. This method indicates the experimental use of the seven principles of Gestalt by the potter, which has helped to better organize the visual components and make the work more easily and attractively perceived by the audience.
