The art of metalworking and creating patterns on metal has a long history. Comparing the two arts of metal engraving and hand-printing from the perspective of examining works, materials, and tools can be interesting in terms of understanding technical relationships. This article, assuming the technical and artistic affinities of the two techniques of drypoint hand-printing and black ink technique (photographic technique) in traditional Iranian engraving, focuses on the diversity of tools used in creating patterns on metal in these two artistic fields. Therefore, the research question is: What are the differences, similarities, and possible technical interactions between the diversity of tools and methods of creating patterns on metal in traditional Iranian engraving and hand-printing? The data collection method was carried out in a library, documentary, and field manner. Also, data analysis was carried out in a descriptive-analytical manner with a comparative approach. This research shows that both the arts of hand-printing and traditional Iranian engraving, despite similarities in using similar tools, have substantial differences in the process of producing the work and their artistic applications. These differences provide an opportunity for combination and innovation in the visual arts and can contribute to the growth and development of new techniques in Iranian arts.
