Abstract: (11 Views)
Studies on the history of Iranian painting and albums (Muraqqa’at) show that the preface of Khwaja Shahab al-Din Abdullah Morvarid is one of the oldest prefaces written for Amir Alishir Navai's album (Muraqqa) during the Timurid period. The most important source that contains a copy of this preface is the Sharafnameh of Morvarid, but so far the original version of the preface and the works in Amir Alishir Navai's album (Muraqqa) have not been found. While examining the album (Muraqqa) of Shah Tahmasp in the Istanbul University Library (nekfy01422), the author came across documents that led to the formation of the hypothesis that these documents could be the original version of the preface of Khwaja Shahab al-Din Abdullah Morvarid and other works by calligraphers prepared for the album (Muraqqa) of Amir Alishir Navai; therefore, the aim of this article was to examine and analyze these works. The findings show that the size of the sheets of Shah Tahmasp's album (Muraqqa) is 476×340 mm. and with a gilded margin. Its text is arranged with identical page layouts; but the pages of Morvarid's preface and the other pages of Alishir Navai's album (Muraqqa) are slightly smaller in size and have a separate gold-colored tableau and are pasted into the background of Shah Tahmasb's album (Muraqqa). Morvarid used the "Taaliq" script for the inscription in this preface, a script that he was skilled and a master in writing and he also wrote his "Monshaat" with the same script. Also, the preface is dated 897 AH and the place of inscription is Herat, and his other works are also signed with the name Abdullah Ibn Muhammad. On the other hand, there are works by Vali Gilani and Saifullah Kermani, other calligraphers of this era, which are dated 897 AH. It is believed that Amir Alishir's album (Muraqqa) could have been a tribute to Khwaja Taj Salmani, who had died in this year. To conduct this research, library documents and resources have been used. Shah Tahmasp's album (Muraqqa) was received online from the Istanbul University Library. This research has a historical approach and the works have been studied in a descriptive-analytical manner.
